Policy papers 20 May 2026

Together with six European business associations, APPLiA calls for a future ๐—–๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฟ ๐—˜๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ผ๐—บ๐˜† ๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜ that enables companies to deliver circular solutions across a stronger EU Single Market.

For circularity to work at scale, businesses need a framework that offers legal certainty, regulatory predictability and room for innovation, while ensuring products remain affordable for consumers.

  • removing barriers to circularity
  • improving the effectiveness of Extended Producer Responsibility schemes
  • harmonising reporting obligations across the EU
  • strengthening collection and sorting infrastructure
  • developing competitive markets for secondary raw materials

At the same time, the legislation should avoid blanket, one-size-fits-all requirements that may not reflect the realities of different product categories. Measures related to product design or recycled and bio-based content should remain evidence-based, proportionate and tailored to sector-specific needs.

Aย successful circular economy must be practical, innovation-driven and fully aligned with Europeโ€™s competitiveness objectives.
