Climate change impacts the lives of all Europeans. Reducing carbon emissions is and should remain the top priority for the EU. To meet the 55% emission reduction objective by 2030, and 2050 climate-neutrality target, we need to enable and accelerate decarbonisation. Which calls for a full-fledged decarbonisation plan for Europe, a system enabling and rewarding investments in decarbonisation and a modernisation of our energy system to reduce consumption and bills.
Preserving jobs and promoting growth in Europe is essential to achieve climate-neutrality. As other world’s regions are making significant efforts to attract talents, pushing for innovation and investments, Europe needs to take its sustainability race to the next level toward becoming a worldwide leader of clean-tech innovation, build a crisis-proof circular economy and maintain a single European voice on industry policy and decarbonisation.
The transition to a climate-neutral Europe is first and foremost a societal affair. All citizens are concerned by the energy prices, the appliances in their homes, and impact of carbon emissions. Consumers should be rewarded for their efforts with meaningful incentives, and protected when needed. A European logistical strategy should be implemented to replace old and energy-intensive appliances and permanent support offered to low-income households.
