Joint Statement on Transitional Provisions for the ECGT Directive

Policy papers 10 Dec 2025

APPLiA has co-signed a Joint Business Statement with other 17 industry associations urging the European Commission to address the lack of transitional provisions in the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (ECGT).

While fully supporting the Directive’s objectives, the signatories warn that applying the new rules to products already lawfully placed on the market would create significant legal, economic and environmental consequence, including unnecessary waste, high relabelling costs and uncertainty for traders and producers.

The statement calls on the Commission to introduce a grandfathering clause for existing products and to develop a coordinated plan for managing legacy stock in a practical and sustainable way.

European industry remains ready to work with the Commission to ensure a fair, legally certain and effective implementation of the Directive.
