APPLiA has co-signed a joint industry statement calling on the European Commission to reconsider its approach to Common Specifications in the proposed Directive and Regulation on standardisation reform. While we support the ambition to modernise and accelerate Europe’s standardisation system, the current proposal risks establishing a parallel framework that would weaken the existing public-private model, long recognised as a driver of innovation, transparency, and European leadership in global standard-setting.
The statement highlights 4 key concerns:
Therefore, we recommend that the Commission reconsider the current approach to common specifications. We urge the Commission instead to priorities efforts to improve and accelerate the existing European Standardisation System, including addressing the delays caused by constraints in the HAS consultant system. The industry and its representatives are ready to work with the commission to find appropriate solutions that promote European competitiveness and global impact in standardisation.
