APPLiA, together with 14 other industry associations, is calling on EU policymakers to adopt a product group-specific approach in the Ecodesign Working Plan. A one-size-fits-all framework risks inefficiencies, delays, and legal uncertainty, making it harder for businesses to comply with sustainability requirements while remaining competitive.
To ensure effective and practical ecodesign measures, the European Commission must establish sector-based sustainability requirements that align with the specific needs of each product group. Overlapping regulations should be avoided to prevent unnecessary compliance burdens, allowing companies to focus on innovation and sustainable development.
A tailored approach will provide legal certainty, reduce administrative red tape, and strengthen Europe’s industries in the global market.
